Mic at the Writers Guild
The Point Pleasant
Writers Guild celebrated Christmas with open mic readings from members and
guests at the December 14th meeting. Refreshments were recipes from
the soon to be published cookbook,
Recipes and Remembrances, Food for the Body, Mind and Spirit.
President, Patrecia
Gray read poems, “I Know What’s Best for You,” and “Too Much.” She sang her
version of “Frogs Went a-Courtin’” written for her Love and Marriage column in Two Lane Livin’.
Marilyn Weaver read her
poems, “Time,” “Our Flag,” “The Price of Freedom,” and “Christmas Poem.”
An excerpt from the
third book of the “Frost” series, First
Love, Last Love, was shared by author Marilyn Clarke. She also read her
CEOS Fiction Contest first place winner, “The Mystery Lover”.
Guest, Susanna
Holstein, from Ripley, WV, who writes the column “Grannie’s Front Porch” in Two Lane Livin’, read a story written
for public radio, about her mother’s fruitcake. Susanna also sang, “The Cherry
Tree Carol”, “Christmas Song” and “The Holly Bears a Berry.”
Ilse Burris read
“Philosophical Thoughts on Being an Artist.”
Guest, Donna Wilson, from
Middleport, Ohio, also known as the “Meigs’ican Storyteller”, told of
thanksgiving turkey mishaps and making pumpkin pies. She told of sitting with a
friend in the hospital and listening to his stories.
Carol Newberry read a
story titled, “Never a Dull Moment.”
More open mic meetings
are being planned for the near future. The Point Pleasant Writers Guild meets
on the second and fourth Wednesdays from 2:00 until 4:00 pm at the Mason County
Library in Point Pleasant.
