The radio chatter hummed in the background, always a part of the working day, the noise of the radios and phones were always in the background. Even with 911 fielding most of their calls there were still some people who wanted to call the sheriff's office directly. She had gotten so she didn't notice the ringing and chatter unless it was pertaiing to her or their office. Simultaneously the phones went wild as the Sheriff came bursting out of his office. She heard the radio, the words like a dagger in her heart. "Officer down, 3462 Benrail Street." She felt the blood drain from her body like a knife had been plunged into her heart. She knew in the way someone with a deep connection to another human being seems to know, Logan was in trouble. She fought the blackness that threatened to overtake her. "No," she whispered, "no..." All eyes in the room turned to her, as the Sheriff grabbed her arm and pulled her with him out the door.
